En EEUU, los periódicos declaran abiertamente su apoyo a uno u otro candidato antes de los comicios. Hasta el 1 de noviembre, 208 lo habían hecho a favor de Kerry y 188 a favor de Bush. El demócrata también gana en cuanto a difusión (20 millones de ejemplares diarios frente a 14) y en el renombre de los medios que le respaldan: New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe... El republicano ha perdido además el apoyo de 60 periodicos como el Chicago Sun-Times o Los Angeles Daily News que en el 2000 le respaldaron y ahora piden el voto para Kerry o no se han pronunciado.
